Tongues a Work in Progress

  • Last night I attend a taping at Jewish Voice with guest Sid Roth. It was amazing to see the healing taking place, myself included. Contrary to what I have recently heard about speaking in tongues, I also want to note that Sid Roth was able to ask for healing for others through the authority of and in the name of Jesus Christ, without having spoken in tongues during the healing process. When we are filled with the Holy Spirit we can do all things through the power of Jesus, not through the power of tongues. Tongues was an outward sign of the Spirit for the purpose of providing proof for unbelievers. If you go with the flow of the Spirit and act in accordance with that leading, I believe we all have a right to stand united in faith. It is sad to divide the body over things that do not constitute reason for division.
  • I found 119 verses in the New Testament dealing with prayer, or tongues. Of the 119, there are only 23 that deal with tongues and out of that 23, only 7 (6%) are positive while a full 16 (14%) are negative. But out of the verses that deal with speaking in tongues directly there is a full 70% of those verses that speak AGAINST speaking in tongues. If it is a prayer language, than it is a one on one prayer language to be used outside congregation settings, as in keeping with the word of God. 1 Corinthians 14:9 CJB It's the same with you: how will anyone know what you are saying unless you use your tongue to produce intelligible speech? You will be talking to the air!15 hours ago · Like
  • Jeannette Dalrymple ‎1 Corinthians 11:13 CJB Decide for yourselves: is it appropriate for a woman to pray to God when she is unveiled?
1 Corinthians 12:10 CJB to another, the working of miracles; to another, prophecy; to another, the ability to judge between spirits; to another, the ability to speak in different kinds of tongues; and to yet another, the ability to interpret tongues.
1 Corinthians 12:28 CJB And God has placed in the Messianic Community first, emissaries; second, prophets; third, teachers; then those who work miracles; then those with gifts of healing; those with ability to help; those skilled in administration; and those who speak in various tongues.
1 Corinthians 12:30 CJB Not all have gifts of healing, not all speak in tongues, not all interpret, do they?
1 Corinthians 13:1 CJB I may speak in the tongues of men, even angels; but if I lack love, I have become merely blaring brass or a cymbal clanging.
1 Corinthians 13:8 CJB Love never ends; but prophecies will pass, tongues will cease, knowledge will pass.
1 Corinthians 14:13 CJB Therefore someone who speaks in a tongue should pray for the power to interpret.
1 Corinthians 14:14 CJB For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit does pray, but my mind is unproductive.
1 Corinthians 14:15 CJB So, what about it? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind.
1 Corinthians 14:18 CJB I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you,
1 Corinthians 14:19 CJB but in a congregation meeting I would rather say five words with my mind in order to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue!
1 Corinthians 14:2 CJB For someone speaking in a tongue is not speaking to people but to God, because no one can understand, since he is uttering mysteries in the power of the Spirit.
1 Corinthians 14:21 CJB In the Torah it is written, "By other tongues, by the lips of foreigners I will speak to this people. But even then they will not listen to me," says ADONAI.
1 Corinthians 14:22 CJB Thus tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is not for unbelievers but for believers.
1 Corinthians 14:23 CJB So if the whole congregation comes together with everybody speaking in tongues, and uninstructed people or unbelievers come in, won't they say you're crazy?
1 Corinthians 14:26 CJB What is our conclusion, brothers? Whenever you come together, let everyone be ready with a psalm or a teaching or a revelation, or ready to use his gift of tongues or give an interpretation; but let everything be for edification.
1 Corinthians 14:27 CJB If the gift of tongues is exercised, let it be by two or at most three, and each in turn; and let someone interpret.
1 Corinthians 14:28 CJB And if there is no one present who can interpret, let the people who speak in tongues keep silent when the congregation meets - they can speak to themselves and to God.
1 Corinthians 14:39 CJB So, my brothers, eagerly seek to prophesy; and do not forbid speaking in tongues;15 hours ago · Like
  • Jeannette Dalrymple ‎1 Corinthians 14:4 CJB A person speaking in a tongue does edify himself, but a person prophesying edifies the congregation.
1 Corinthians 14:5 CJB I wish you would all speak in tongues, but even more I wish you would all prophesy. The person who prophesies is greater than the person who speaks in tongues, unless someone gives an interpretation, so that the congregation can be edified.
1 Corinthians 14:6 CJB Brothers, suppose I come to you now speaking in tongues. How can I be of benefit to you unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or teaching?
1 Corinthians 14:9 CJB It's the same with you: how will anyone know what you are saying unless you use your tongue to produce intelligible speech? You will be talking to the air!
1 Corinthians 7:5 CJB Do not deprive each other, except for a limited time, by mutual agreement, and then only so as to have extra time for prayer; but afterwards, come together again. Otherwise, because of your lack of self-control, you may succumb to the Adversary's temptation.
1 John 5:16 CJB If anyone sees his brother committing a sin that does not lead to death, he will ask; and God will give him life for those whose sinning does not lead to death. There is sin that does lead to death; I am not saying he should pray about that.
1 Peter 3:10 CJB For "Whoever wants to love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit,
1 Peter 4:7 CJB The accomplishing of the goal of all things is close at hand. Therefore, keep alert and self-controlled, so that you can pray.
1 Thessalonians 3:10 CJB Night and day we pray as hard as we can that we will be able to see you face to face and supply whatever shortcomings there may be in your trust.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 CJB Pray regularly.
1 Timothy 2:8 CJB Therefore, it is my wish that when the men pray, no matter where, they should lift up hands that are holy - they should not become angry or get into arguments.
1 Timothy 2:9 CJB Likewise, the women, when they pray, should be dressed modestly and sensibly in respectable attire, not with elaborate hairstyles and gold jewelry, or pearls, or expensive clothes.
1 Timothy 4:5 CJB because the word of God and prayer make it holy.
2 Corinthians 1:11 CJB And you must add your help by praying for us; for the more people there are praying, the more people there will be to give thanks when their prayer for us is answered.
2 Corinthians 13:7 CJB And we pray to God that you will do nothing wrong. We are not concerned with our appearing successful, but with your doing what is right, even if we appear to be failures.
2 Corinthians 13:9 CJB So we rejoice whenever we are weak and you are strong; indeed, what we pray for is that you become perfect.
2 Thessalonians 1:11 CJB With this in view, we always pray for you that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill by his power every good purpose of yours and every action stemming from your trust.
    2 Thessalonians 3:1 CJB Finally, brothers, pray for us that the Lord's message may spread rapidly and receive honor, just as it did with you;
Acts 1:14 CJB These all devoted themselves single-mindedly to prayer, along with some women, including Miryam (Yeshua's mother), and his brothers.

James 3:6 CJB Yes, the tongue is a fire, a world of wickedness. The tongue is so placed in our body that it defiles every part of it, setting ablaze the whole of our life; and it is set on fire by Gei-Hinnom itself.

  • Jeannette Dalrymple What I have witnessed lately is persons edifying themselves and not the body, as we see Paul warned against this. This is not my words to warn against the speaking of tongues, it is actually the word of God. Since I strive to uphold the whole word of God, and not just those parts which make me "happy", I will stand on Paul's conclusion that tongues is the least of all gifts and one that is best used with interpretation to edify the body and not the self. If some people want to believe that they tap into an angelic and heavenly language than I would suggest that they regard these verses as pertinent to their walk in Christ...15 hours ago · Like
